The Orchid Collection

Currently the Garden has more than 300 genera and 2,000 species represented in its orchid collection. The collection consists entirely of species orchids.  The orchids in our collection are used for display, education conservation and research. While we strive to maintain and display a broad representation of genera within the Orchidaceae, certain groups are further developed for their display, educational or conservation value. These are:

  • Orchids of Madagascar
  • Paphiopedilum, the tropical Asian slippers
  • Euglossine bee pollinated orchids
  • High elevation genera, including Dracula, Masdevallia and Odontoglossum
  • Phalaenopsis
Orchids of hybrid origin are maintained for use in temporary displays and do not enter the permanent collection.
